Personality: Mitsuru at first glance, is what most people would probably consider to be “the perfect young lady”. Smart, elegant and beautiful, she is that seemingly unapproachable and completely unattainable girl that you’re often too intimidated by to get to know. She is also extremely studious, always striving for perfection from herself with her studies and encouraging the other students around her to do the same, particularly underclassmen due to her motherly streak. The girl is excessively organised, managing to successfully combine her roles as student council president and valedictorian with fencing, studying college-level material and fighting Shadows.
Dignified and almost always calm and professional, she always appears to be in control of any situation and if she isn’t she will strive to make it otherwise. She comes across as a fairly aloof, no-nonsense type of person and is never afraid to boss others around if need be. She dislikes it when people don’t listen or disobey her and likes to accomplish things competently and efficiently. Mitsuru also seems to like to analyse people before attempting to get to know them on any personal level, ie. before you’re able to understand her; she has to understand you. It is because of all this that she can come across as a little cold and standoffish, with that reserved, aloof aspect of her personality being very hard to shake off, even in the most relaxed social situations.
The foundations of Mitsuru’s personality are pretty much defined by the fact she is a Kirijo, a name that comes with weight and a great deal of responsibility, not to mention high expectations. The name requires nothing less than the highest standards of excellence, something that she really takes to heart, not to mention having to face up to the pressure of being the only child of its current generation and in effect the sole heir. She despises failure on her part in any shape or form and is obsessed with handling things to the best of her ability and and making sure they’re in her control. Being who she is also means a great deal of guilt for this seemingly perfect rich “heiress”, due to certain events caused by her grandfather ten years previously.
The particular point in the game that I'm taking her from is very shortly after her father has been killed. Following this event, Mitsuru understandably falls into a deep depression, not just for the loss of her father himself but because this also means she loses her sense of purpose in fighting The Shadows ie. to protect her father. She is pulled out of this depression by Yukari Takeba, someone she had never previously been particularly close to until that point but Yukari succeeds in getting Mitsuru to both open up to her and to keep on fighting. After this point, Mitsuru is still very controlled and reserved by most people's standards but she does display an increased level of openness and more of a willingness to let people in, which she hasn't done previously.
It's worth noting that despite being highly intelligent and excelling academically, Mitsuru has a bit of a naive streak. This is likely due to her extremely privileged upbringing and lack of what most people would see as a normal childhood experience. The most infamous example and one that Persona fandom loves to poke fun at is the fact that she has never eaten a hamburger - which is revealed if the Protagonist engages with her "social link" during the course of the game. She asks questions such as how she should eat said hamburger, whether utensils are required to do so and also marvels at how a fast food restaurant can make a profit whilst selling its "units" at such cheap price points.
Abilities: Mitsuru has the ability to summon a handy little thing called a “Persona”. They are fundamentally like alter egos that possess incredible abilities. In Mitsuru’s Persona’s case, it is called called Artemisia. Its specialties are ice, healing, and foul status inflicting magic. It also possesses scanning and analysis ability, although this isn’t quite as strong. Personas are summoned with a tool called an evoker, which basically resembles a gun. (cw for self-harm, suicidal imagery) It is used to summon the Persona by pointing the device at your head as if shooting yourself, thus breaking down all mental barriers and fears and allowing it to emerge.
For absolute nitty-gritty specifics on the moves her Persona possesses there is a list here.
