There is only usually one reason to ask a question like that, right? ]
Perhaps. Depends what you have in mind.
[ Teasing him a little seems like a better idea than admitting that she would readily make herself available for Yu even if she did have something planned. That's the thing about being here, she does actually have free time. Way too much of it for her liking if she's honest. ]
no subject
Dinner?
[A beat.]
Unless your royal duties are keeping you too busy.
no subject
[ She definitely does. ]
Are you asking me on a date, Narukami?
[ Why is that suddenly more flustering than thinking about all of the other stuff they've already done? ]
no subject
I am. [Phew. Well. He said it. Just admitted outright like that.]
Is tonight okay?
no subject
Yes. [ More than okay. ] Tonight it is then.
If I may have a say in the matter - don't take me somewhere like the Gilded Cage. I want to try something different.
[ You know, like
commonernormie food. ]no subject
[Something different, huh...?]
That gives me some ideas. I'll pick you up at 7.
[Unfortunately, what's currently giving him those ideas is the question of "what would shock and scandalize her queenly fans most?"]
no subject
[ Like, a lot. ]
I trust you know where to find the royal elevators? You can't really miss mine I'm afraid.
[ It's the one with the giant heart on the door.
And the walls of the elevator interior itself may or may not be lined with slightly compromising paintings of her.]If you stop by later I can show you where the secret entrance is.
[ So far she had only showed it to Nami - because privacy is at a minimum in this place. Anyway, she'll try to ignore the connotations of wanting to share it with Yu in particular now. ]
no subject
[The elevator. of course.]
Secret entrance? Sounds exciting. For when you want to avoid the crowds, I assume?
no subject
Or for when I want someone to join me, discretely.
[ HINT. ]
no subject
... oh.
Yu is so glad this is happening over text because he's gonna need a second to recover from the implications, there.]
Then I'm even more interested to see it.
[Stuck the landing on that one. After a beat:]
You...probably have a kitchen, right? I could come cook something. If it's preferable to stay in.
no subject
Except, oh - his response is... positive.
He cooks too? Of course he does. ]
I do. But is it the done thing to expect your date to cook for you?
[ She has a chef for that and- ugh, she really is coming across rather silly here isn't she? ]
I wouldn't wish for you to put yourself out.
[ A beat. Then another message follows: ]
I wouldn't be able to assist you much. Truthfully, I am not much of a cook.
[ Surprise, surprise. Mitsuru might be accomplished at many things but rustling up a home-cooked meal is not one of them. ]
no subject
[Not...that he's been on many dates where someone cooks. But it doesn't really seem like a stretch to do that, either. Besides, he's cooked for his friends plenty of times. Why not?]
Don't worry about it. I offered. I like to cook, so it's no trouble.
[Hmm. Hopefully he's not coming across as overeager, here. It's just -- now he's thinking about what she said, and also about their, erm, history. And staying in seems almost like a nice change of pace...
Ah. He's probably overthinking this. He sends the messages and waits for a response, before he can second- or third-guess himself.]
no subject
As long as you won't find staying in with me dull.
[ You know, in comparison to doing it in garden mazes, or library nooks... That kind of thing. ]
You're welcome to stay the night if you wish.
[ If she were the type to say as much she would warn him not to bring any sleepwear. Instead, she'll just let that very obvious insinuation dangle there. ]
->action?
[Sometimes he sort of worries about the opposite, actually.
As for the...invitation--]
Thank you. I'll keep that in mind. See you tonight.
[As if he has any intention of not accepting an offer like that. Anyway, it's not hard to find the royal elevators, even if a couple of longterm guests whisper scandalously about the lowly five waiting for the doors to open. Yu isn't generally fazed by rank --it all seems kind of artificial, really-- so he greets the gossip with a nonchalant shrug.
The elevator...really is something. As fascinating as it is, he's pretty relieved when it comes to a stop at the top. It's not long before he rings the doorbell to the Queen's suite.]
no subject
[ Excuse her while she fights the urge to practically beam at her device as she reads that reply from him.
She's having a similar challenge when she opens her rather ridiculously large door to find Yu standing there at the expected time a few hours later. It had also been challenging trying to determine exactly what to wear on a date that is happening right here in her own "home". In the end she had settled for the white turtleneck and black plants outfit almost identical to the one she wore back home. ]
Good evening. Please come in.
[ Mitsuru's method of address is characteristically formal as per usual but the way she smiles at him as she stands to one side to allow him space to enter the
entrance hall of her suite is anything but. ]
Nobody tried to stop you coming up here then I take it?
[ You never know with that crazy royal entourage never far away. ]
no subject
Not this time, [said with a small amount of amusement. He's sure that plenty of them would have liked to, if their scandalized gossip had been any indicator.
Yu tends to be pretty moderate in the way he dresses, and this evening is no exception: a gray polo, dark trousers, nothing fancy. He did consider it, briefly, dressing way up for the event...but while the opulence of the Queen suite does make him feel a bit underdressed, Mitsuru's choice of clothes makes him feel like he made the right choice. Anyway. He gestures at the hall.]
I probably should have been expecting it, but...this is really incredible to see in-person.
[Not just how elaborate it is, but how impossible it is, too, the way the resort seems to bend space and reality just to make things like this possible.]
no subject
[ And probably given them precious little room to wonder exactly why a five was on his way up to visit her suite. Rank may be arbitrary but Mitsuru certainly looks comfortable in such a grandiose setting, at home even, as though this is exactly the kind of place she's used to being in... Because, well, she is.
The door shuts behind them both automatically, at which point the redhead takes a few steps closer to him, suddenly just a bit awkward. Is greeting him with a kiss appropriate in this case? She certainly wants to. It doesn't help with her slight awkwardness that she has to raise herself on a her tiptoes just a little in order to do so, the height difference between them more apparent when he's not leaning down somewhat. Her lips brush against his only for a moment, brief but definitely inviting in their intent...
But they're actually going to have a meal first. ]
It's fully customisable. So if you'd like a different sort of setting for this evening at any point that can be arranged.
[ She pauses. ]
...This is just what I felt comfortable with. [ She is aware that it definitely isn't what everyone is accustomed to and the smile still on her face turns to one of slight embarrassment at the admittance for a moment. ]
no subject
Somehow it seems fitting that she doesn't seem unused to any of this. She wears it well, as the saying goes, and as the next head of the Kirijo Group, it's no wonder.]
It's nice. [Not a lie; it's elegant, but not gaudy. As much as the whole tableau is on another level, it's not like he's ever wanted for much, either, at least on paper.
... ... ... that's not to say he isn't curious about what kind of, ah, customizations she's talking about.
Ahem. Later, though. For now, he points down the hallway.] This way to the kitchen, I'm guessing?
no subject
Correct. Third door on the left.
[ The kitchen itself is just as grand as the rest of the place. When they do reach it she can't help but be charmed by the novelty of having a "date" about to cook for her. Others have used her kitchen in the time she's been here but Yu is... well, Yu. She's always a little extra giddy when he's around. It's embarrassing really. ]
The chef keeps it fully stocked at all times so you should be able to find whatever you need.
Am I allowed to know what you're going to be cooking or is it a surprise?
no subject
Is he trying to be extra chill around her? Maybe. Look, she's not the only one who gets a little giddy when they're together. Not that he's eager to admit it, given everything about this place...and how embarrassing it is.]
This must be a chef's dream, [he says, easily enough. He wouldn't go so far as to call himself a chef -- he's pretty much a hobby cook. But...still. The point stands. As for the question...well, he's sort of maintaining the opinion that keeping it a surprise makes it seem much cooler than it actually is. I mean, it's not as anticlimactic as if he was about to declare he was making omurice for a date, but-- anyway, he checks the pantry before he commits to his answer.]
I thought I'd go with pizza. [Hey, she did say nothing fancy. And since the chef conveniently stocked the pantry with pizza dough for some reason...] If that's alright with you?
no subject
[ Honestly, he could definitely just make her omurice and she would still be touched by his efforts. Her smile says as much and for a moment, she seems to be recalling something. ]
I've had pizza once before actually, a long time ago. It was at a restaurant with my father and I believe it had lobster, three types of cav-- [ She pauses, because this is definitely coming across a certain way, isn't it? Now that she stops to think about it, how much more of a naive rich girl could she possibly come across? ]
...That is to say, it was rather delicious. I'm sure this one will be too.
no subject
Lobster and three types of caviar. He's pretty sure she was about to say three types of caviar. And somehow, the fact that she stops herself makes it even more wild. Not that that wild response is not endearing, in a way, and he has to suppress a little smile in response.]
Sounds interesting. I can't say I've ever thought to put lobster on pizza.
[No, instead he's now decided to add extra sauce and cheese, just to see what happens. Anyway, he doesn't have anything like that, but he does have sliced ham, bell peppers, and mushrooms, which he starts layering on almost methodically.]
no subject
It's oddly soothing, watching him work in her kitchen and a wicked little part of her brain tells her that she wouldn't mind seeing him here more often. Preferably in the morning, after he's spent the night and they've--
Yep, not going to go there.
Not right now anyway. ]
I suppose it is.
--But, um, please don't think that I eat that sort of thing every day.
[ Oh god. There is an ever so slight flush on her cheeks, mainly because she really isn't used to feeling this flustered around someone... and she actually really cares what he thinks of her. ]
no subject
I know. Don't worry about it.
[He. He's trying hard to act stupidly cool, to actually pay attention to what he's doing and not to fumble or spill something. Miraculously, everything manages to make it into the oven despite his difficulty focusing.
A soft exhale. Before he can start wondering if he should have chosen something with a longer cook time, he turns back to her, canting his head a bit.]
And now, we wait.
no subject
It’s raw, fresh dough - that has to take longer than a pre-prepared frozen one or something, right? Not that she’s ever eaten that variety either. ]
…Would you like to see the pool while we wait?
[ It’s quite something. Plus it’s not far from the kitchen and also on the lower level of her suite.
Absolutely no other reason. ]
Quickly of course.
