[ Her voice sounds unusually flat, despite all of her skill at pretending otherwise. For some reason she can't keep it out of her voice.
The last thing that Mitsuru feels like doing right now is talking, to anyone. The feeling had begun with the black streaks that had started appearing on her limbs and had only intensified as time had passed. She hadn't mentioned her condition to anyone and by now she feels so filled with intense despair and sadness that it hardly seems worth mentioning...
[Ah... yep. That tone of voice is what she was afraid of hearing, honestly. It's nothing like the Mitsuru she knows at all, and she'd hazard a guess that it's not like the Mitsuru her own leader had known, either. She sounds kind of like Scott.
Still, though there's still cheer in Kotone's voice, there's a hint of seriousness buried beneath it.]
No? How come?
[The cheer fades as she adds quietly,] Senpai... do you by chance have black marks on your body?
Honestly... I am not sure. I think I'm perhaps a little unwell.
[ If "unwell" correctly summarises a feeling of absolute crushing depression, sadness and hopelessness that is...
The other girl's question takes her by surprise somewhat and there's silence on Mitsuru's end for a moment as she lifts her free hand to gaze listlessly at those exact black marks. ]
Yes. [ Flat, almost listless sounding in her response too. ] They've been spreading.
[ Perhaps she should be concerned about them? Some forgotten part of her brain is telling that she should be. But it feels like such effort to care right now. ]
[Yep. Yeah. Okay. Mitsuru just sounds so apathetic... she's never heard her like that before. Even if she hadn't seen how deeply it was affecting Scott, she'd have reason for concern. On the other end of the line, Kotone smiles, trying to inject her usual cheer into her voice.]
I have to come over your place and get something. Is that okay?
[Can Mitsuru even feel alarm like she is right now? Kotone doesn't want to alarm her, so best to act like everything is normal until she gets there.]
[ Ordinarily Mitsuru would be questioning what exactly it is that Kotone needs to get from her place but this version of Mitsuru is... well, apathetic is an understatement. When she's not bouncing between that and ridiculous levels of sorrow.
Getting her to agree therefore, isn't exactly difficult. ]
That's fine. I'll let you in if Shinjiro doesn't I suppose.
[ She guesses?? She isn't even sure if Shinjiro is in right now or not given that she hasn't vacated her room all day. ]
[She'd be coming over whether or not Mitsuru actually agreed, but it's nice that she did agree. And she even offered to let her in!
Kotone's gotten pretty comfortable just trying the door to let herself into any of her friend's houses (with just a cursory knock out of politeness!), but in this case, it doesn't matter whether the door is locked or not. She's going to stand there in front of the door and just knock.
[ It's an excellent ploy to force Mitsuru to leave her room - a fact that probably isn't lost on Mitsuru herself either. She just wants the incessant knocking to stop at this point so she will make her way to the front door to answer it.
The door opens slowly, almost as if the occupant is still feeling reluctant to receive anybody. Which is totally what is happening here. ]
Shiomi.
The door was unlocked.
[ As if she suddenly expects people to just walk on in ordinarily. Apparently she has little care whether someone strolls right on in as long they don't bother her while they do it. ]
Abruptly, she grabs Mitsuru's hand and yanks, bodily trying to pull her out of the house. She's intimately familiar with the urge to just stay in bed because nothing feels like it's worth doing, and she'd seen how this corruption had already affected Scott. If there's a risk that the people afflicted could lose control of their powers... best to make sure they're around Dazai so they can be contained.
